My parents are both from Lockhart and the mention of Martindale was a surprise! Ironically (or not), Martindale suffered terrible flooding in 2015. I remember huge floods in Central Texas in 1998, 2000, and 2002. The narrative around the recent flooding has been so upsetting, and this gives voice to some of what I'm feeling. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
My great-grandmother’s family lives in the Martindale area. The ones who lived directly in town died in a tragic car accident near Beeville. They were my favorites of the Martindale clan.
Ggm died in the 1980s. I knew her well into my 20s. I remember fun days in Martindale playing with those good cousins.
River (creek) wasn’t a problem then. Few residents. But as the town grew, big houses were placed closer to water with not enough infrastructure for protection.
Thank you so much for affirming the anger over lack of accountability and disinformation in current rhetoric. Appreciate your comment.
Most of it is based on lived life. My grandmother and her sister who lived next door (Irma) were the keepers of the Sachs family history. When Irma died, her kids and grandkids didn't want any of those silly photos or diaries, so she gave them to my grandmother. When my grandmother died, my cousins were not interested in those things, so I got all of them.
Luckily for my, both my grandmother and Aunt Irma kept meticulous notes about each photograph.

Thank you! From you it means a lot!
Life is so very contingent. My heart goes out to all those suffering. Thank you for shining a light.
They didn’t deserve to be sacrificed to 150+ years of inaction by Texas’ leaders.
