Organizing Substack
How to receive email or app notifications about specific sections only. Hidden sections. Indexing. Trying to make this a better experience for people who matter, my readers!

How to receive email or app notifications about specific sections only
If you enjoy reading our posts, but aren’t a fan of Texas history. Or, if you like Texas history but don’t like political posts. Or, if you only want travel tips, and nothing else…
There is help for you! Directly from Substack.
Your subscribers can control which sections they receive emails from by changing the notifications settings in their account. To access their account, they should click on their personal account avatar (it’s on the top right of the screen on the desktop version). Then click “manage subscription”, and check or uncheck notifications for each section. They can also access notifications directly from https://example.substack.com/account, replacing “example” with your publication URL.
Subscribers are also offered the choice to unsubscribe from one or more sections when they click “unsubscribe” at the bottom of any of your emails.
To read the entire article, go here. But be prepared to crave cherry cake if you click on that link!
Sections that do not post to our Substack home page
To de-clutter home page archives for Now More Than Ever, I’ve “hidden” the travel guide, Translations Verbatim, and Small Business Matters from the home page. Unless you follow the steps above to discontinue email notifications about those sections, you will continue to receive email notifications. But archives for each section will be found in the section only, not on the Now More Than Ever home page. Both Finding Family and Real Texas History will continue to archive posts both to the section, as well as to the home page.
Indexing Now More Than Ever
Last week, I finally figured out Substack’s tagging system. It took a while, because it’s not intuitive. But yea!, it makes sense.
I will start with indexing Real Texas History in a couple of weeks, since it is smaller. If that works, then watch for the larger Substack to also have detailed index for your convenience.
If you have suggestions or comments about how I can better organize this Substack, please comment below! The above changes are a direct result of feedback from readers (hi, Gwen!). In the meantime, watch for the indexing.
Stay tuned! And thanks for reading.
